Back at the Hizzy

I'm unexpectedly home. Also I like the word hizzy because my friend has her home number under "hizzy" in her phone. It's funny. Hizzy. Speaking of homes, when you say the plural of house, it really should be hice, if you think about it. Mouse is mice, louse is lice, house is houses...? My house (singular) is officially for sale. Today was its first day on the market and we had 2 showings, 1 tomorrow and 1 sunday. Kill me. This is how they describe it on the website:

PROFESSIONALLY DEOCORATED & ABSOLUTELY CHARMING. LOTS OF UPDATES. HUGE UTILITY RM W/BATHROOM, WOULD BE GREAT AS AN EXERCISE RM. MASTER DOWN, COZY STUDY, 3 BEDS UP PLUS PLAYROOM OR 5TH BEDROOM. SEP BREAKFAST RM, SUNROOM, FABULOUS POOL.

Our real estate agent is English, which probably explains why she says charming and maybe even why she can't spell "decorated."

Moi, Je M'appelle Lolita

Today I watched the re-make of the Stanley Kubrick film Lolita, which is based on Vladimir Nabokov's book. It's really sad and gross, but it's a good movie once you can get past the whole incest/statutory rape thing. Here's part one.

Library Escapades

So I was unaware that a lot of the books on my list are freakishly long. No really. I'll have to read them one at a time and maybe I'll finish by the time I graduate.

Anyway so I went to the library today to A: check out those books and B: do research for my UHC paper. This was my first legitimate trip to the library. After complaining for a good twenty minutes and refusing to ask anyone for help I looked around until I sort-of-kind-of found stuff I can use for this paper on Doris Lessing. Finding the books on my to-read list was an absolute nightmare - not as far as "do they have them?" but more like "where are they in this gargantuan library?" I got two of them: Ada and Mrs. Dalloway. I have them till March 10th. Isn't that a little long?

Books I Covet

Lately I've realized I'm relatively illiterate, considering I stopped reading anything other than Sparknotes at the start of my junior year. I made a list of books I should read - tell me if you've read any of them. I want to know if they're worth my time.

Ada or Ardor: A Family Chronicle - Vladimir Nabokov
Blood and Guts in High School - Kathy Acker
A Clockwork Orange - Anthony Burgess
The Golden Notebook - Doris Lessing
The Grass is Singing - Doris Lessing
Lolita - Vladimir Nabokov
Mrs. Dalloway - Virginia Woolf
Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit - Jeanette Winterson
The Piano Teacher - Elfriede Jelinek
Summer - Edith Wharton
The Wasp Factory - Iain Banks
In Watermelon Sugar - Richard Brautigan
